First time user - The absolute basics

We created this page as we received feedback that our process flow was confusing and difficult to understand for a first time user. So this is the cleanest, least complicated explanation of how the site works.

There are just 5 steps. Please read all steps by click on each link to expand the information before uploading.

We support a number of different templates depending on your specific data import requirement. As a first time user, please start with the basic template which will help you understand how the process works. Once you are comfortable with the process based on the basic template, you can explore the advanced ones.

Download Basic Template

In the basic template, you will find a sheet named "Ledgers". You need to paste the Tally Ledgers for your Tally company here. Watch this video to know how to export your Tally ledgers and copy them! This is a one time exercise as you can save this template as your custom template. You only need to redo this step if you add / edit a Tally ledger later.

In the "Data" sheet of the template, the accounting entries are to be specified. There is sample data for you to get an idea of what is required.

At a minimum, for each entry you need to fill in:

Date
Narration
Voucher Type
Debit and credit ledger names
Debit and credit amounts

Other columns are optional

Save the template file, upload the template in the simple uploader at the end of this page:

The file will be converted after upload and take you to a downloader page. Click the link to download the XML file. You have to import this XML file into Tally.

Note down / copy the full file path e.g. C:\Users\Downloads\123456.xml

Go to Gateway of Tally > Import Data > Vouchers. Paste / type the path above and press enter.

If you have done everything correctly, your data wil be imported! Congratulations! You now know how the process works. Once you feel more confident, you can try out the more advanced templates based on your requirement.

2. Fill up the template with your ledger information (FIRST TIME ONLY)

3. Fill up the template with your accounting entries

4. Upload the filled up template.

5. Download the converted XML and import into Tally ERP9.
